  The invention describes novel imidazolone derivatives as well as hydrolyzable esters or ethers of compounds of formula I and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, a process for their manufacture, pharmaceutical compositions and the use of such compounds in medicine (formula I) wherein R?1, R2, R3¿, A and X are as defined in the description. The compounds of formula I are the human immunodeficiency virus reverse transcriptase enzyme which is involved in viral replication. Consequently the compounds of this invention may be advantageously used as therapeutic agents for HIV madiated process.
