  (EN) A method of nitrating electron-deficient carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic compounds such as pyridines, diazines and triazines and benzenoid aromatics having electron-withdrawing substituents involves first reacting the aromatic species with a sulphilimine species or with the corresponding N-alkali metal salt thereof to generate an N-(hetero)aryl-S,S-dialkyl, diaryl or alkylarylsulphilimine derivative. This intermediate may then be readily oxidised under relatively mild conditions using a peroxycarboxylic acid such as m-chloroperbenzoic acid, peracetic or peroxytrifluoroacetic acid. Good yields of nitrated products are obtained including some previously unprepared. The novel N-alkali(alkylaryl)sulphilimine reagents are prepared by reacting an alkali metal hydride, an alkali metal hydrogenous base or an alkyl lithium with the corresponding sulphilimine. Preferred salts are the N-lithio types and the preferred sulphilimine is diphenylsulphilimine. Where the salt is used reaction should be in an aprotic solvent but if the sulphilimine per se is the reagent a polar solvent is used.(FR) Ce procédé de nitratation de composés aromatiques carbocycliques ou hétérocycliques, possédant un nombre insuffisant d'électrons, tels que des pyridines, diazines et triazines ou aromatiques benzénoïdiques présentant des substituants attracteurs d'électrons, consiste à faire d'abord réagir l'espèce aromatique avec une espèce sulfilimine ou avec le sel d'un métal N-alcalin correspondant de celle-ci, afin de produire un dérivé -N(hétéro)aryl-S,S-dialkyle, diaryle ou alkylarylsulfilimine. On peut ensuite facilement oxyder cet intermédiaire, dans des conditions relativement douces, à l'aide d'un acide peroxycarboxylique, tel que l'acide m-chloroperbenzoïque, l'acide peracétique ou peroxytrifluoroacétique. On obtient ainsi de bons rendements de produits nitrés, notamment de produits non préparés préalablement. On prépare ces nouveaux réactifs de N-alcali(alkylaryl)sulfilimine en faisant réagir un hydrure de métal alcalin, une base hydrogénée de métal alcalin ou un lithium d'alkyle avec la sulfilimine correspondante. Des sels préférés sont des sels des types N-lithio, et la sulfilimine préférée est la diphénylsulfilimine. Lorsqu'on utilise le sel, la réaction doit s'effectuer dans un solvant aprotique, mais si on utilise la sulfilimine elle-même en tant que réactif, on emploie un solvant polaire.
