An efficient ecofriendly approach has been developed for one-pot multicomponent synthesis of fused polycyclic dihydropyridine (DHP) derivatives. Tandem condensation of aromatic aldehydes, 4-hydroxycoumarin, and ammonium acetate was performed using heterogeneous core–shell Fe3O4@SiO2@Ni–Zn–Fe hydrotalcite under solvent-free conditions, obtaining the corresponding products in high to excellent yield. The nanomagnetic layered double hydroxide was characterized using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM–EDX), powder X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller technique. Moreover, the recoverability of the green hydrotalcite was investigated by TEM and SEM analyses. The current research highlights the development of a green method for synthesis of DHPs without use of hazardous solvents under mild conditions.
