Ketones can be easily obtained by electroreduction in an undivided cell of an organichalide - metal carbonyl mixture using a Ni-bpy catalytic system in DMF (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine). The process is especially well convenient for primary benzyl and alkyl halides.

Grignard-type reactions have been performed in ball mills providing carboxylic acids from organobromides with gaseous CO2 or sodium methyl carbonate (SMC) as C1-synthon. The transformations are solvent-free and occur in the presence of LiOH under liquid-assisted grinding (LAG) conditions with 2 equivalents of 2-MeTHF as ethereal additive.

prepared products under microwave conditions are obtained with high yields and within shorter reaction times. Reaction of lithiated bromobenzene with aromatic aldehydes 2a,b delivered diarylmethanols 3a,b that were oxidized to 4a,b. Compound 4a was cyclized to give methoxyfluoren-9-one 5, which was demethylated affording hydroxyfluoren-9-one 6. Compound 4b was reacted with triethylphosphite to produce
