  Herbicidal diphenyl ether compounds of the formula: or a tautomer thereof, and salts thereof, wherein R1 is an alkyl group optionally substituted by halogen or phenyl; R2 is hydrogen, halogen or nitro; R3 is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, trifluoromethyl, or cyano; R4 is hydrogen, halogen, or trifluoromethyl; R5 is halogen or trifluoromethyl; and R6 is hydrogen, or C1-C4 alkyl. These compounds are useful as selective herbicides in a range of crops, for example cotton, soya bean, peas, maize, wheat and rice.
