    A non-infrared sensitized low silver photographic element with a non-light sensitive layer, preferably an antihalation layer, containing a diphenylaminocyclopentene heptacyanine benzothiazolium infrared dye where the benzothiazolium groups have electron-withdrawing substituents on the phenyl ring and solubilzed alkyl groups on the nitrogen. The infrared dye can be present as a liquid-crystalline dispersion. This class of infrared dyes form J-aggregrated species in a liquid-crystalline or a solid particle dispersion with high IR density and low visible absorbance.

Thermal-dye-bleach agents, and in particular, a novel class of salts of arylsulfonylacetic acids as bleaching agents for photothermographic use are disclosed. Photothermographic elements employing these thermal-dye-bleach agents are suitable for use as acutance and antihalation systems, bleachable filter dye materials, and in promoting unblocking of various components such as blocked developers, especially in photothermographic elements.

    There is provided a color photograph improved in preservability that has been obtained by making chemically inactive the aromatic amine type color developing agents and their oxidized product that remains in the silver halide photographic materials after color development processing. The color photograph exhibits excellent performance in that its white background can be prevented from discoloring even during long-term storage or display, and deterioration of a dye image caused by the remaining color developing agent being taken into the photographic material after the color development, bleaching, and fixing processes, or due to its oxidized product, can be prevented.
