  Herein we present a concise preparation and characterization of 2-[(aryl)iodonio]benzenesulfonates. Determination of the X-ray crystal structure reveals a distorted trigonal bipyramidal molecular geometry about iodine and a pseudo-square geometry within the unit cell.   1,3,3-trioxide was found to be thermally unstable and highly reactive towards organic solvents.
