Abstract A polyunsaturated fatty acid isolated from a Pediastrum species was identified as (4 Z ,7 Z ,10 Z ,13 Z )-hexadecatetraenoic acid. It inhibited the development of fertilized echinoderm eggs at a concentration of 25 μg/ml.
