Optically active γ-valerolactone and γ-nonanolactone have been synthesized via optical resolution using a newly developed chiral amine derived from L-phenylalanine. Both racemic γ-lactones were transformed to corresponding diastereomeric amides by amidation with the optical resolution agent.
