  2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl iodide adds to terminal alkenes under free radical conditions in good yields if the radical initiator is added in successive portions to the reaction mixture. Reduction of the resulting secondary iodides with sodium borohydride gives the corresponding trifluoroethyI-substituted products in overall yields of 40-60%.
