Studies on the enantioselectivity of the transesterification of 2-methyl-1,4-butanediol and its derivatives catalyzed by Pseudomonas fluorescens lipase in organic solvents
The irreversible transesterification of 2-methyl-1,4-butanediol 1a and its benzyl ethers 2a and 3a catalyzed by Pseudomonasfluorescenslipase in chloroform was studied, the highest ee (>98%) having been obtained for the 4-benzyl ether 2a.

Sulfamic acid has been used as an efficient catalyst and green alternative for meta 1-containing acidic materials to promote the acetolysis reaction of THF to produce 1,4-diacetoxybutane. This method is also applicable to the acetolysis of other cyclic ethers, such as methyl substituted THF and tetrahydropyran and 1,4-dioxane, which is less reactive. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Regio- and enantioselectivity of Pseudomonas cepacia lipase in the transesterification of 2-substituted-1,4-butanediols
The transesterification of 2-substituted-1,4-butanediols 1a, 2a and 3a with vinyl acetate catalyzed by the Pseudomonas cepacia lipase in organic solvents affords preferentially the 1-acetate, the highest regioselectivity having been found for the epoxydiol 3a, which is enantioselectively resolved [86% ee for the unreacted (S)-(-)-3a].

Incorporation of 2-C-Methyl-d-erythritol, a Putative Isoprenoid Precursor in the Mevalonate-Independent Pathway, into Ubiquinone and Menaquinone of Escherichia coli
Incorporation of deuterium labelled 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol into isoprenoid side-chains of ubiquinone and menaquinone from Escherichia coli strongly supports the proposed intermediate role of this branched sugar derivative in the mevalonate independent pathway for isoprenoid biosynthesis via glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and pyruvate.
