    It is an object of the present invention to provide a polymer composition including a polymer produced by cationic polymerization in which the composition does not liberate a chlorine component by heating, which prevent processing apparatus, driers, etc. from corroding, and which is odorless and safe. The object is achieved by a polymer composition obtained by adding a double salt containing magnesium and aluminum as metal atoms to a polymer containing chlorine atoms produced by polymerizing cationically polymerizable monomers with an initiator in the presence of a Lewis acid.

    The present invention has for its object to provide a damping material which, despite a high damping capacity at and around room temperature, has a small temperature dependence of rigidity at and around room temperature and a damping material having hot-melt processability and a good balance between damping capacity and temperature dependence of rigidity at and around room temperature. This invention provides a damper material composition wherein the ratio of the storage modulus (G′) value at 0° C. to the corresponding value at 40° C. as found by the measurement of dynamic viscoelasticity in the shear mode, namely (G′ 0° C. /G′ 40° C. ), is not greater than 15 and the loss tangent (tan &dgr;) value as found by said measurement is not smaller than 0.4 at 0° C. to 40° C.

    The present invention is a strip of a thermoplastic elastomer composition to be wound spirally on a cylindrical drum to form an inner liner for a tire. The strip is composed of a layer stack of a first layer made of a thermoplastic elastomer composition containing 0.1 part by mass to 50 parts by mass of an organic derivative of clay mineral relative to 100 parts by mass of a styrene-isobutylene-styrene triblock copolymer, and a second layer made of a thermoplastic elastomer composition containing at least one of a styrene-isoprene-styrene triblock copolymer and a styrene-isobutylene diblock copolymer. The strip has a strip main body with a thickness of 0.05 mm to 1.0 mm and ear portions with a thickness thinner than the thickness of the strip main body and a width of 0.5 mm to 5.0 mm disposed on opposite sides thereof.

    An isobutylene-based polymer as a polymer of cationically polymerizable monomers principally composed of isobutylene or a combination of isobutylene and a styrene-series monomer, generates a molded article with outstanding properties, the isobutylene-based polymer characteristically satisfying the following provisions; 1. the isobutylene-based polymer has a substantially continuous molecular weight distribution on a gel-permeation chromatogram; 2. the molecular weight at the highest peak on a gel-permeation chromatogram is within a range of 10,000 to 500,000; and 3. the length (a) of the elution time in the lower molecular region of the mountain from the highest peak and the length (b) of the elution time in the higher molecular region of the mountain from the highest peak on a gel-permeation chromatogram, satisfy the provision represented by the formula (b)/(a) ≧ 1.3.
