    A photo-alignment material in which an alignment film can be formed parallel to a vibration direction of light and a tilt angle of the alignment film is easily controlled and a photo-alignment method using the photo-alignment material are provided. A photo-alignment material of the present invention contains a photo-responsive substance having a threshold value of responding light intensity.

    Disclosed is a photosensitive surface printing plate material which is suitable for the exposure to a laser beam having a light emission wavelength ranging from 350 to 450 nm, is highly sensitive, and has excellent storage stability. The material has a substrate and a photosensitive layer provided on the substrate, wherein the photosensitive layer comprise a polymerization initiator (A), a polymerizable compound (B) having an ethylenic double bond, a sensitizing dye (C), and a polymeric binder (D). In the photosensitive layer, the polymerizable compound (B) comprises a product of the reaction among (a) a compound represented by the general formula (1), (b) a diisocyanate compound and (c) a (methacrylate compound having a hydroxyl group in the molecule. General formula (1): HO—(CH 2 ) n —NH—CHR 1 R 2 wherein R 1 and R 2 independently represent an alkyl group or an aralkyl group, provided that R 1 and R 2 may together form a ring; and n is an integer of 1 to 10.

    The present invention provides a novel ethylenically unsaturated compound which is highly sensitive to scanning exposure due to an ultraviolet to near-infrared laser and is cured to give good physical properties; a light sensitive composition providing good developability and high sensitivity and forming a high strength layer; a planographic printing plate material having advantages that good developability, high sensitivity and high strength layer are obtained, particularly a planographic printing plate material requiring no developing machine which are mounted on a printing press without any development, followed by printing and which provides excellent developability on a printing press and printing durability; and a printing process. The ethylenically unsaturated compound has in the molecule a photo-oxidation group and a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated bond, and has a predetermined solubility in water or an aqueous alkali solution. The planographic printing plate material is characterized in that it comprises a support and provided thereon, a light sensitive layer containing the ethylenically unsaturated compound, a polyhalogen compound as a photopolymerization initiator, a water-soluble polymer binder as a polymer binder and an infrared absorbing agent.
