Theoretical Calculation and Experimental Analysis of Molecular Complementarity in Co-Crystal

A crystallization technique and theoretical calculation were used in co-crystal L of two compounds with 2,3-bis(4-pyridyl)butane (A) and acceptable guest acid (1,2-bis(4-carboxy-phenoxy)ethane) (B). The study shows the crystallization technique to be viable and practical for co-crystal engineering and demonstrates the theoretical calculation may be importance not only of hydrogen bonding but also of geometric fit in co-crystal formation.

(bib)(H 2 O) 2 ] n ( 2 ) (bi = 4,4'-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-ylmethyl)biphenyl; L = 4-(2-(4-(methoxycarbonyl)phenoxy)ethoxy)benzoic acid and bib = 2,3-bis(4-pyridyl)butane), are synthesized and characterized. This work evidently indicates that the effect of the secondary ligands, molar ratios and geometric preferences of the metal centers are critical on the resulting entangled motifs.

ELEMENTAL SELENIUM REACTIONS WITH 4-ETHYLPYRIDINE

A reaction of elemental selenium with 4-ethylpyridine has been studied. The process was run in sealed ampuls, within 205 - 240 degreesC, under nitrogen. The reaction products were indentified by GC-MS and H-1 NMR. The following products have been identified: (4-pyridyl)hydroxymethyl ketone, (4-pyridyl)methyl ketone, (4-pyridyl)-hydroselenomethyl ketone, 2,3-di(4-pyridyl)butane, 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)butane, 1-(4-pyridyl)-1-[2-(4-ethyl)pyridyl]-ethane, 1-(4-pyridyl)-1-[2-(4-ethenyl)pyridyl]ethane.
Two new entangled coordination polymers constructed by flexible coligands: Synthesis, magnetism, and gas absorption
Two isostructural metal organic polymers, namely [M(bce)(bib)]center dot solv}(n) (M = Co(II) and solv = CH3OH center dot H2O for 1; M = Ni(II) and solv = 0.5CH(3)OH center dot 0.25H(2)O for 2) (H(2)bce = 1,2-bis(4-carboxy-phenoxy)ethane and bib = 2,3-bis(4-pyridyl)butane), have been synthesized and characterized. The structures of the two compounds show 2D -> 2D parallel interpenetrated frameworks with polyrotaxane and polycatenane character. The magnetic behaviors of 1 and 2 indicate antiferromagnetic interactions within paddle-wheel units. Furthermore, the compound 1 exhibits relative high N-2 uptake adsorption capacity.
