A formic acid-catalyzed reaction of substituted cycloalkylanilines with 4,6-dibenzofuran-and 4,6-dibenzothiophenedicarboxaldehydes in methanol-dichloromethane mixture afforded a number of the corresponding diimines, which can be of interest as components of catalytic systems for polymerization of olefins.

Reactions of substituted cycloalkylanilines with acenaphthenequinone in a mixture of methanol with methylene chloride afforded a number of the corresponding 1,2-is(cycloalkylarylimino)acenaphthenes. The products may be used as ligands for the synthesis of nickel complexes which are capable of catalyzing olefin polymerization at elevated temperature in the presence of methylaluminoxane.

This invention relates to a process for producing ring alkylated aromatic amines. In the process an aromatic amine is reacted with an olefin using an acidic crystalline molecular sieve as a catalyst. Under the conditions of the process the catalyst is extremely active and with amines that are capable of alkylation at the ortho and para positions, high selectivity to the ortho alkylated isomer can be achieved.
