Double Diastereodifferentiation at a Distance: A biologically relevant tandem asymmetric dihydroxylation reaction contradicts the accepted mneumonic prediction. Asymmetry can be restored with a remote stereocentre, at an unprecedented 9 bonds away from the reacting centre.
