The nucleophilic substitution of chloride in dichlorocyclopentenedione 1, dichloromaleic anhydride 2 and in dichloromaleimide 3 in the dichloromaleimides 3 by carbonylmetallates gives the monometallated cyclopentenediones 4-18. By reaction with the strong nucleophile Re(CO)(5)(-) also the bismetallated olefins 19-25 can be obtained. The structure of 2,3-bis(pentacarbonylrhenium)-maleimide 25 has been determined by X-ray diffraction. From 2,3-bis(pentacarbonylrhenium)-maleoyl-glycline 27 the succinimdyl-ester 28 can be obtained, which reacts with cr-amino acids to the rhenium-labelled dipeptides 28 and 29.
