    A method of treating, inhibiting, or preventing an infection in a subject is described. The method comprises administering to the subject an effective amount of at least one bis-pyridinium compound. The bis-pyridinium compound comprises two aromatic ring structures. Each of the ring structures comprises a pyridine ring, and the ring structures are linked by a linker group of at least 8 atoms in length, said linker group being attached to the nitrogen atoms of the pyridine rings. At least one substituent on at least one of the ring structures is an alkyl group having at least 2 carbon atoms, and no substituent on either of the ring structures is —OH, —SH or an amine group.

    A process for preparing 1-hexene which comprises trimerizing ethylene in a 1-hexene solvent in the presence of a catalyst system obtainable by contacting in a 1-hexene solvent the following components (A), (B), (C) and (D): (A) a chromium-containing compound represented by the general formula: CrXkYm wherein X in Xk is a residue of a carboxylic acid, a residue of a 1,3-diketone, a halogen atom or an alkoxyl group, k is an integer of 2 to 4, Y in Ym is an amine compound, a phosphine compound, a phosphine oxide compound, a nitrosyl group or an ether compound and m is an integer of 0 to 6, with the proviso that any two Y's may be same or different; (B) trialkylaluminum or dialkylaluminum hydride; (C) a pyrrole compound or a derivative thereof; (D) a group 13 (III B)-halogen compound represented by the general formula: MTtU3-t or a group 14 (IV B)-halogen compound represented by the general formula: M'Tt'U4-t' wherein M is an atom from the group 13 (III B), M' is an atom from the group 14(IV B), T is an alkyl group, an aryl group, an allyl group or a hydrogen atom, U is a halogen atom, t is a real number of 0 or more and less than 3 and t' is a real number of 0 or more and less than 4.

    A transparent conductive sheet for a touch panel that has a surface resistivity of not more than 1,000 Ω, a total light transmittance of not less than 80%, and a haze of not more than 5%, and exhibits excellent levels of water resistance and adhesion between a transparent substrate and a transparent conductive layer. The transparent conductive sheet for a touch panel of the present invention includes a transparent substrate and a transparent conductive layer formed on top of the transparent substrate, wherein the transparent conductive layer contains a π-conjugated conductive polymer, a polyanion and an ester compound or specific polymerizable compound. The transparent conductive layer may also include conductivity improvers, dopants, other resin components and/or additives as required. A conductivity improver is preferably included to improve the conductivity.

    Provided are a method for producing a polyvinyl alcohol resin which is highly transparent in the form of an aqueous solution, has a good appearance when formed into a film or an aqueous gel, and improves ink acceptability and color appearance and exhibits water resistance when used for a thermal recording material or an ink-jet recording material; and a polyvinyl alcohol resin obtained by the method. In particular, provided is a method for producing a polyvinyl alcohol resin, comprising the steps of copolymerizing an aliphatic vinyl ester (A) with diacetone acrylamide (B), at least a part of which diacetone acrylamide (B) is added at a later stage, in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in an alcohol solvent, so that the ratio (a)/(b) of the polymerization yield at the end of the polymerization (a) to the polymerization yield at the end of the later addition (b) of diacetone acrylamide (B) is in the range of 1.01 to 1.10, and saponifying the resulting copolymer.
