The C1–C9 (4) and C16–C23 subunits (9) of lysocellin (1), a representative polyetherantibiotic, were synthesized stereoselectively from D-glucose and D-mannitol. Stereocontrolled hydroboration, Michael reaction, Grignard reaction, etc. were successfully applied.

This invention provides a compound which is a purine of formula (Ia) or (Ib): and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof that are inhibitors of PI3K and a selective for the p110δ isoform, which is a class Ia PI3 kinase, over other class Ia PI3 kinases and over class Ib kinases. The compounds may be used to treat diseases and disorders arisi from abnormal cell growth, function or behaviour associated with PI3 kinase such as cance immune disorders, cardiovascular disease, viral infection, inflammation, metabolism/endocrine function disorders and neurological disorders.
The invention relates to novel tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives and their use as active ingredients in the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions. The invention also concerns related aspects including pharmaceutical compositions containing one or more of those compounds and their use as medicaments for the treatment or prevention of protozoal infections, such as especially malaria.
Stereocontrolledsynthesis of two fragments corresponding to the C1-C9 (3) and C16-C23 parts (6) of lysocellin (1) using hydroboration, Wittig-Homer reaction, and Michael reaction in the key steps is described.
