An electron-rich perylenediimide-C-60 dyad has been prepared to explore a new type of donor-acceptor system. Time-resolved absorption measurements in benzonitrile revealed unambiguous evidence for the formation of a charge-separated state consisting of perylene diimide radical cation and C-60 radical anion via photoinduced electron transfer, showing a new class of artificial photosynthetic models in terms of charge separation.

The invention relates to the synthesis of amphiphilic amino acid derivatives, in particular to a method for the N-alkylation of an unprotected amino acid or the N-terminus of an oligopeptide substrate, comprising reacting said unprotected amino acid or oligopeptide substrate with an alcohol, e.g. a fatty alcohol, in the presence of a homogeneous transition metal catalyst.
A novel foam composed of closed cells having an average cell diameter of 0.05-3 mm, said foam having a foam density of 0.007-0.10 g/cm3, a variation in cell wall thickness of ±30% or less and a variation factor of cell diameter of 70% or less can be produced by foaming a composition consisting essentially of 100 parts by weight of substantially non-crosslinked ethylenic polymer having a density of 0.935 g/cm3 or more and a melting point of 117°C or more and 0.05-10 parts by weight of a foaming decelerant having an ability to prolong the foaming time by at least one second as compared with the case of absence of the foaming decelerant as measured by a glass tube blowing test method. Said foam is excellent in mechanical properties and heat-resistance and has a good appearance.

An anodic electrodeposition composition containing a water-soluble or water-dispersible modified epoxy resin derived from an epoxy resin having two epoxide groups and at least one alcoholic hydroxy group at the terminals and the middle of the resin backbone, respectively. The present invention provides a surface-crosslinking process of a water-absorbent resin to obtain a water-absorbing agent which has high absorption speed and excellent absorption capacity under a load (a water-absorbent resin which has specific or larger values of properties). In a process comprising the step of adding a crosslinking agent to a dry water-absorbent resin powder to thereby crosslink the neighborhood of its surface, the surface-crosslinking is carried out while the resin powder having a weight-average particle diameter of 200∼1,000 µm is pulverized.
