PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing optically active 1-methyl-3-phenylpiperazine and optically active 1-(3-hydroxymethyl-2-pyridyl)-4-methyl-2-phenylpiperazine useful for producing a medicine such as optically active mirtazapine, etc.
SOLUTION: An optically active phenylglycine derivative is used as a raw material and passed through N-chloroacetylphenylglycine, N-methylaminoacetylphenylglycine, a methyl ester thereof, 1-methyl-3-phenylpiperazine-2,5-dione, 1-methyl-3-phenylpiperazine, 1-(3-cyano-2-pyridyl)-4-methyl-2-phenylpiperazine and 1-(3-formyl-2-pyridyl)-4-methyl-2-phenylpiperazine to produce the optically active piperazine compound.
