  Three different HNN'O acyl hydrazones have been prepared and used to make palladium(II) complexes of the type [Pd(NN'O)Cl]. These have been fully characterised by means of microanalysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The isolated complexes catalyse the polymerisation of phenylacetylene in water at room temperature, leading to polyphenylacetylene with high molecular weight. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
