    A series of N-nitrourea derivatives bearing various cycloalkyl were conveniently obtained via three steps including nitration, carbamic chlorination, and aminolysis reactions. The structures of all newly synthesized compounds were elucidated and confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analysis. The preliminary bioassay indicated that the target compounds exhibited moderate herbicidal activity against Amaranthus albus and Sorghum sudanense. However, some of the title compounds presented high plant growth regulating activity against rice.

    There are provided di- tri- and tetrasubstituted N-nitroaniline compounds and inorganic and organic salts thereof which are effective for increasing axillary branching, improving canopy and enhancing flowering of herbaceous ornamental plants and graminaceous crops, leguminous crops, cotton and sunflowers. The salts are also effective as yield enhancing agents and lodging inhibitors for the crops.

    The invention relates to substituted phenylnitramins with plant growth regulating properties, and to the use of these compounds for the control of relative growth of graminaceous crops, leguminous crops and cotton, especially for reducing the relative stem growth and increasing stem stiffness. The plant growth regulating phenylnitramines have the formula: wherein R, is halogen, C1-C4 alkyl, CN, CO2CH3, SO2CH3, S02F, SO2CF3, C1-C3 haloalkyl, C1-C3 haloalkoxy or NO2; R3 is halogen, methyl or methoxy; R5 is halogen, CF,, methoxy or C1-C4 alkyl; with the proviso that not more than two of said R groups may represent fluorine, or an ammonium salt thereof.

    The invention relates to substituted phenylnitramines and derivatives with fungicidal properties, and to the use of these compounds for the control of fungi, for example for the protection of living plants from attack thereby. The fungicidal phenylnitramines of this invention are compounds selected from formulae (I) and (III): wherein the formula (I) R to R, each represent a hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4 alkyl, halo(C1-C4)alkyl, C1-C4 alkylthio, C1-C4 alkylsulfonyl, C1-C4 alkanoylamino, C1-C4 alkyl-O-C-NH-, cyano or nitrol; Y is hydrogen, C1-C8 alkyl, C3-C8 alkenyl, C3-C5 alkynyl, R6-O-R4 alkenyl or C2-C5 alkynyl; R, is C1-C4 alkylene; R, is C2-C4 alkylene; W and W' each are hydrogen or halogen; Z is hydroxy or halogen; with the provisos, that at least two of the R groups R1 to R, are other than hydrogen; and that not more than two of the R groups R, to R, are C1-C4 alkylthio, C1-C4 alkylsulfonyl or nitro; and wherein the formula (lll) cation X represents H3NR, H2NR'R", HNR'R"R"', or NR'R"R"'R"", wherein R'to R"" each represent C C1C18alkyl, aryl or benzyl, or R' and R" taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form the cyclic moiety:
