Long chain dicationic ammoniumsalts were used successfully as phase transfer catalyst in the condensation reactions of aromatic aldehydes in water under ultrasonic irradiation for the first time. The quaternary salt having longer distance between the cation centers was more effective than the mono- and dicationic ones having short chain.
in the solid state. The analysis of the single crystal structures reveals that the halogen atoms induce specific intermolecular interactions such as C-X --- π interactions for series I, hydrogen bonds and type II halogen – halogen bonds for series II. Moreover, it is showed that the luminogens of the series II present an evolution of the crystalline phase inducing a change of the luminescence colour
