The previously unknown 4-(alkyl-1-oxo-7,8,9,10,11,12-hexahydrobenzo[a]actidin-12-yl)- and 4-(alk-yl-],8'-dioxo-2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9-octahydro-]1H-xanthen-9-yl)-2-methoxyphenyl esters of aliphatic (C-5-C-7, C-12) carboxylic acids were synthesized via cascade heterocyclization of cyclohexane-1,3-dione and dimedone with 2-naphthylamine and long-chain vanillyl esters.
A method of providing a desirable vanilla beany flavor in an orally-receivable product, includes adding to a product base at least one of divanillyl succinate or at least one compound according to Formula I or Formula II
in which R′ is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl and —CHO, and R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen. C1-C10 linear alkyl. C3-C10 branched alkyl, C2-C10 linear alkenyl, C3-C10 branched alkenyl, C1-C10 hydroxyalkyl, C2-C10 carboxyalkyl, and tetrahydrofuranyl.

Condensation of vanillin esters of aliphatic acids with 6-aminoquinoline and cyclic c-diketones (1,3-cyclohexanedione and dimedone) afforded new 2-methoxy-4-(11-oxo-7,8,9,10,11,12-hexahydrobenzo[b][4,7]phenanthrolin-12-yl)phenyl esters of carboxylic acids.

Oral care compositions having improved taste, said compositions comprising: a carrier material; from about 0.001 to about 10%, by weight of the composition, of an oral care component selected from metal salts, antimicrobial agents, bad breath reduction agents, bleaching agents, surfactants, or a combination thereof; and from about 0.0001 to about 1%, by weight of the composition, of a TRPA1 agonist selected from vanillin esters; benzoate esters; hydroxybenzoate derivatives; methoxy benzoate derivatives; hydroxybutanedioate derivatives; benzamidobenzoate derivatives; methylpropanoate derivatives; phenyl acetate derivatives; hex-3-enoate derivatives; 2-(furan-2-ylmethylsulfanyl)-3-methylpyrazine; phenylmethoxymethylbenzene; (2R)-2-azaniumyl-3-[(2R)-2-azaniumyl-3-oxido-3-oxopropyl]disulfanylpropanoate; (3E)-2-hydroxy-4,8-dimethylnona-3,7-dienal; (2R)-2-azaniumyl-3-[(2S)-2-azaniumyl-3-oxido-3-oxopropyl]disulfanylpropanoate; (3Z)-3-butylidene-2-benzofuran-1-one; 3-methyl-N-(3-methylbutyl)butan-1-imine; 2-(furan-2-ylmethyldisulfanylmethyl)furan; and combinations thereof.
