    Polymer nanoparticles via intramolecular crosslinking of sulfonyl azide functionalized polymers
    摘要:
    A new approach to prepare polymeric nanoparticles via intramolecular collapse of single chain of sulfonyl azide functionalized polymers is proposed. Upon heating, the sulfonyl azide functionalized linear copolymers lose nitrogen and form nitrene. This nitrene reacts with C H bond of the backbone in dilute solution and leads to the efficient intramolecular crosslinking and formation of nanoparticles where the diameter of nanoparticles can be controlled by both the molecular weight and the content of sulfonyl azide groups. A significant reduction in the hydrodynamic volume is observed on going from the starting random coil of linear chains to the corresponding nanoparticles. The morphology and the dimension of nanoparticles are characterized by using transmission electron microscope (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), as well as dynamic laser scattering (DLS).     The present invention relates to surface modifying agents for polymeric and/or textile materials, methods of making and/or using a surface modifying agent to modify and functionalize polymeric and/or textile materials, and/or methods of using surface modified or functionalized polymeric and textile materials, and/or products using or incorporating surface modified or functionalized polymeric and textile materials. For example, the surface modifying agent in precursor form can be styrene sulfonyl azide monomer, polymer or copolymer capable of undergoing a chemical reaction in the presence of heat or light to form one or more styrene sulfonated nitrene monomers, polymers or copolymers, which are capable of chemically reacting with the surface of a polymeric or textile material to endow a specific or desired chemical surface functionality to the surface of a polymeric or textile material.     This invention relates to a process for forming a long-chain branched polymer and a long-chain branched polymer resulting from the process. The process comprises reacting (a) a polyolefin base polymer with (b) a coupling agent comprising a polymeric coupling agent, optionally blended with a molecular coupling agent, the polymeric coupling agent being a modified polyolefin having a reactive coupling group at one or more terminal ends of the modified polyolefin chain, to couple the polyolefin base polymer (a) with the coupling agent (b) to form a long-chain branched polymer having a long-chain branching and/or higher surface energy relative to the polyolefin base polymer.
