Atom Transfer Radical Addition of Activated Primary Alkyl Chlorides Using In Situ Generated [Cp*Ru<sup>II</sup>(Cl)(PR<sub>3</sub>)] Catalysts

Atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) of various primary alkyl chlorides was studied using [Cp*Ru(Cl)2(PR3)] type complexes. Using 1,1′-azobis(cyclohexanecarbonitrile) as a radical initiator improved the yields. Reaction monitoring with in situ ATR−FTIR spectroscopy and DFT calculations give insights into the system.
