  A new versatile precursor 2-hydrazonemalonohydrazide for energetic material synthesis is presented. Several different energetic compounds including triazoles, azides and salts were synthesized based on this precursor and extensively characterized. Using comprehensive analytical methods and theoretical calculations, their crystal structures, energetic behavior, and toxicity were determined.
