A useful preparative method for 1,2-dienes from 3-methoxy-carbonyloxy-1-alkynes by the palladium-catalyzed hydrogenolysis with ammonium formate is described. 3-Methoxycarbonyloxy-1-alkynes are prepared by the addition of magnesium acetylide to ketones or aldehydes, followed by quenching with methyl chloroformate.

Asymmetric hydrolysis of the acetates of racemic alkynyl alcohols and α-hydroxy esters by Bacillus subtilis var. Niger afforded optically active acetates and alcohols in 7–90% optical purities. The both enantiomers of optically pure mandelie acid were prepared by this microbial method.

heterogeneous gold(I)-catalyzed regioselective hydration of propargylacetates has been developed that proceeds smoothly in 1,4-dioxane at room temperature in the presence of 1 mol% diphenylphosphine-modified MCM-41-anchored gold(I) complex [Ph2P-MCM-41-AuSbF6] as catalyst and provides an efficient and practical approach for the synthesis of a variety of α-acyloxy methyl ketones with high atom economy
