    A green and convenient approach to symmetrical biaryls has been developed. The catalytic desulfitative homocoupling of various inexpensive and readily available sodium arylsulfinates in environment-friendly solvent, water, and under clean oxidant, molecular O2, afforded symmetrical biaryls in good yields. What's more, water can hold the noble catalyst PdCl2 for recycling several times easily, and facilitate separating insoluble organic product.

    Oligo-p-phenylenes have proven to be versatile building blocks for the generation of self-assembled nanoaggregates with interesting optical properties via vapor deposition on solid supports. Preliminary studies have shown that both the properties and the morphologies of these aggregates can be influenced by the introduction of functional groups. To this end, we have developed general approaches to the synthesis of symmetrically and unsymmetrically 1,4′′′-substituted p-quaterphenylenes through the application of a reliable Suzuki cross-coupling strategy.

    The present invention provides an organic electroluminescence device which can be driven at a reduced voltage, hardly causes the crystallization of a molecule, can be produced in improved yield, and has a long lifetime because of difficulty of molecular crystallization, and aromatic amine derivatives for realizing the device. The aromatic amine derivatives are novel aromatic amine derivatives having a specific structure. The organic electroluminescence device includes an organic thin film layer formed of one or more layers including at least a light emitting layer, the organic thin film layer being interposed between a cathode and an anode. In the organic electroluminescence device, at least one layer of the organic thin film layer, especially a hole transporting layer, contains the aromatic amine derivative alone or as a component of a mixture.

    An aromatic amine compound of a specific structure having at least one fluorene structure. An organic electroluminescence device which comprises one or more organic thin film layers comprising at least one light emitting layer sandwiched between a cathode and an anode, wherein at least one of the thin film layers comprises the aromatic amine compound according to claim 1 singly or as its mixture component. Such an organic electroluminescence device has various luminescent hues, high heat resistance, long lifetime, high luminance and high luminous efficiency. The above-mentioned novel aromatic amine compound enables to realize such an organic electroluminescence device.
