Pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine derivative 3a was prepared and reacted with methyl iodide to give 4 or 5 depending on reaction conditions. Oxidation of 3a with iodine produced the corresponding disulphide derivative 6 , whereas oxidation with KMnO 4 gave the corresponding oxo derivative 7 .
