    The present invention relates to a non-amphiphile-based water-in-water emulsion composition. The non-amphiphile-based water-in-water emulsion composition includes a water-soluble polymer, a non-amphiphilic lyotropic mesogen encapsulated by the water-soluble polymer; and water. In one embodiment, the non-amphiphilic lyotropic mesogen includes, without limitation, a lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal, and more specifically disodium cromoglycate (DSCG). In another embodiment, the water-soluble polymer can include, without limitation, a polyacrylamide, a polyol, a polyvinylpyrrolidone, a polysaccharide, or a water-soluble fluoride-bearing polymer. The present invention also relates to a porous hydrogel made with the use of the non-amphiphile-based water-in-water emulsion. The present invention further relates to using the emulsion and hydrogel for various applications.

    The disclosure relates to novel cosmetic compositions comprising, in a cosmetically acceptable medium: (i) at least one cationic polymer which is obtained by polymerization of a mixture of monomers comprising: a) at least one vinyl monomer substituted with at least one amino group, b) at least one hydrophobic nonionic vinyl monomer, chosen from those of formulae (I) and (II): CH 2 ═C(X)Z,  (I) CH 2 ═CH—OC(O)R;  (II) wherein X, Z, and R are defined in the present specification; c) at least one associative vinyl monomer, and d) at least one hydroxylated nonionic vinyl monomer; and (ii) at least one starch. These compositions may have a texture which does not change over time and which may allow a better distribution, better lathering properties and also better cosmetic properties.

    Universal supports for oligonucleotide synthesis include a support material represented by the following formula: 1 In this formula, substituent A is selected from H, alkyl, aryl, or a polymeric or silica base material; substituent B is selected from acyl, aroyl, or a polymeric or silica base material; and substituent C is selected from a dimethoxytrityl group or a protecting group removable under acidic or neutral conditions. For the supports, one of substituents A or B constitutes the polymeric or silica base material. In use, an oligonucleotide is attached to the support at substituent C.

    Hydroxyalkyl amino-substituted triiodobenzoates are provided, where the remaining position is substituted by amino or carboxy. The compounds have low solubility in the gastrointestinal tract, but are resorbable from extravisceral body cavities. They can be readily formulated and used as contract media for the plain radiography of the GI tract. Also, addition polymers comprised of triiodo compounds bonded through an amino nitrogen to a non-oxo-carbonyl group of an addition polymerizable monomer are provided. The polymers are highly water soluble physiologically acceptable, and not resorbable from the GI tract, but from the extravisceral body cavities. The polymers find use for computer tomography of the GI tract.
