  The synthesis of a new progestomimetic steroid, analogous to the cetaloxopromegestone precursor of Trimegestone has been carried out in eight steps from 9 alpha-hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione. This latter compound can be obtained from the fermentation of gamma-sitosterol, a sterol extracted from soya bean oil.
