  Abstract2,2′‐Diketospirilloxanthin and 2,2′‐diketobacterioruberin have been prepared via the corresponding 15,15′‐dehydro compounds by condensation of 15,15′‐dehydroapo‐4,4′‐carotenedial (C30) with 3‐methoxy‐(resp. 3‐hydroxy)‐3‐methyl‐2‐butanone. 2,2′‐Diketospirilloxanthin was identical with natural P 518.
