    In order to examine the structural requirements of the enzyme, maleylacetone cis-trans isomerase, the enzyme, 6-oxo-2,4-heptadienoic acids, and its methyl esters were synthesized to provide the four possible cis-trans isomeric skeletons. The compounds are reported. The reported results suggest that the enzyme binds maleylacetone in the region of the 6-oxo function as well as by its carboxyl group.

    The present invention relates to novel substituted and unsubstituted terephthalic acid and carboxylate derivatives and products prepared therefrom having a significant renewable content.
