  A process for the preparation of intermediates useful in the synthesis of diarylpyridines having COX-2 inhibitor activity.   Decarboxylative cross-coupling of 3-pyridyl and 4-pyridyl carboxylates with aryl bromides is reported. Using a bimetallic system of Cu2O and Pd(PPh3)4, the scope of the reaction is demonstrated by the synthesis of 27 pyridine-containing biaryls in moderate to good yields.
