A variety of azinones, amides and carbonyl compounds were chemoselectively and regioselectively N-, or α-C-halogenated in good to excellent yield using AlCl 3 /Pb(OAc) 4 and ZnBr 2 /Pb(OAc) 4 in acetonitrile.
