  These are provided polymer bound stabilizers with recurring units selected from the formulas or both wherein the units occur, e.g., in the polymer back­bone, x is 0 or 1, R¹ and R² are, e.g., hydrogen, and each -- is the residue of a primary amino or hydrazido substituted stabilizer group selected from (a) hindered phenols, (b) hindered amine light stabilizers, (c) 2-hydroxybenzophenones, (d) 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2H-benzotriazoles, (e) secondary aromatic amines, (f) benzothiazoles or benzimidazoles, (g) aryl salicylates, (h) salicylic acid derivatives (i) oxamide derivatives and (j) dialkyl sulfides, with the proviso that at least two different groups from (a) through (j) are attahced to the polymer. The polymeric stabilizers are prepared by the reaction of primary amino or hydrazido substituted stabilizers with some or all of the anhydride groups of the polymer or copolymer. They are not lost from the polymer by volatilization, migration or extraction, even at high temperature and may be used as concentrates to stabilize other polymers.

  N-(2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl-4-piperidinyl)imide containing polymer is prepared by blending together a mixture of a polymer containing anhydride functions and a 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetraalkylpiperidine or its 1-alkyl or 1-acyl derivatives and heating said materials in the blend, either prior to or during the blending step to the molten stage of the polymer; thereafter, heating said blend above 180°C for a sufficient time to form the product. All volatile by-products are removed either simultaneously or concurrently with the above 180°C heating step.

  Ultraviolet light stabilizers are chemically bound to anhydride containing polymers or copolymers. The polymeric stabilizers are prepared by the reaction of primary amino or hydrazido-substituted UV absorbers with some or all of the anhydride groups of the polymer or copolymer to form polymers with recurring units selected from the formulas or or both in which the units occur, e.g., in the polymer backbone and wherein x is 0 or 1, R1 and R2 are, e.g., hydrogen or phenyl and G is, e.g., wherein R3 and R4 are, e.g., hydrogen or R3 or R4 is a connecting group X1 which is, e.g., a direct bond. The polymer bound stabilizers are not lost from the polymer system by volatilization, migration, or extraction, even at high temperature. The polymer of this invention may be used as they are or as concentrates to stabilize other polymer systems.

  Polymer bound antioxidants in which the antioxidant stabilizer groups are chemically bound to polymers or copolymers by an acylaminoimide or diacylhydrazide function are prepared by reacting hydrazido substituted anti­oxidants with some or all of the anhydride groups of anhydride containing polymers or copolymers to form a polymer with recurring units selected from the formulas or both wherein the units occur, e.g., in the polymer backbone, x is 0 or 1, R¹ and R² are, e.g., hydrogen and G is, e.g., wherein R³ is t-alkyl of 4-8 carbons, R⁴ is, e.g., hydrogen and X¹ is, e.g., -N(R)-C(=O)-(CH₂)b- wherein R is e.g., hydrogen and b is 0, 1 or 2. The concentration of the stabilizers bound to the polymer may be readily varied depending upon the particular end-­use of said polymer. Polymer with high concentrations of bound antioxidants can be used as masterbatches to stabilize other polymer systems.
