Structure−Property Investigations of Conjugated Thiophenes Fused onto a Dehydro[14]annulene Scaffold

A series of 12 thieno-fused macrocycles based on the dehydro[14]annulene framework have been prepared. Studies have focused on the optical and electronic properties of the dehydrobenzothieno[14]annulenes (DBTAs) and dehydrothieno[14]annulenes (DTAs) utilizing NMR spectroscopy, UV−vis spectrophotometry, electrochemistry, and DFT computations. X-ray crystal structures were also obtained for two of the
developed for the synthesis of unsymmetric dibenzo[a,e]pentalenes. The introduction of appropriately sized silyl groups on the starting substrates led to a high crossover selectivity without using an excess amount of either substrate. Impact of Pendant 1,2,3-Triazole on the Synthesis and Properties of Thiophene-Based Polymers

pi-Conjugated moieties are often attached to conjugated polymers to systematically alter their electronic properties. Herein, we report the synthesis and properties of a thiophene polymer hearing a triazole moiety in the third position. Through NMR-based quenching studies, we show that the placement of the triazole moiety alters reaction pathway of the Ni(0)-mediated Grignard metathesis polymerization possibly through chelation. When compared with a triazole on the main chain, the pendant triazole moiety acts as in electron donor and lowers the band gap of the polymer. The triazole moiety also does not hinder the packing of the conjugated backbone. We also show that the fluorescence of this polymer is quenched with PCBM. indicating its potential as a candidate or organic photovoltaic devices.
