    The preparation of 2-oxazolines and related N-containing heterocycles from the corresponding hydroxyamides using XtalFluor-E ([Et2NSF2]BF4) as a cyclodehydration agent is described. A wide range of heterocycles are obtained under mild conditions in good to excellent yields. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    A direct, efficient, and practical protocol to install a chiral Oxazoline unit onto aryl/heteroaryl rings via palladium-catalyzed C-H functionalization of 2-positions of oXazolines with a variety of halides using dppe as the ligand has been developed. Various chiral oxazdline ligands could be synthesized, even in a 10-g scale process. This protocol is a good supplement to traditional methods and for diverse synthesis of chiral oxazoline ligands.

    N-Acyl-2-oxazolidinones are ring-opened by lithium iodide and decarboxylated in the presence of a mild proton source. Further reaction with an amine base provides 2-oxazolines. The transformation is general for oxazolidinones unsubstituted in the 5 position and occurs under mild conditions (25-50 degrees C). These results complement the existing methods for this transformation by allowing lower temperatures and/or avoiding metal catalysts.
