An anionic sulfamate ligand based on a biphenyl-phenanthroline skeleton was designed and applied to the para-selective C−H borylation of aromatic quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts. Mechanistic studies and computational analysis elucidated the origin of this unusual selectivity.
