1,1,2,2-tetrachlorodisilane was prepared from 1,1,2,2-tetramesityldisilane by reaction with liquid HCl, 1,1,2,2-tetrafluorodisilane by fluorination of tetrabromodisilane with ZnF2. With PCl5, 1,1,2,2-tetramesityldisilane was easily chlorinated to form 1,2-dichlorotetramesityldisilane but the subsequent reduction with LiAlD4 was not successful. The 29Si-NMR, Infrared and Raman spectra are reported.
