Four new gelsedine-type oxindolealkaloids (1–4) were isolated from the leaves and branches of Gelsemium elegans, together with 10 known alkaloids. The structures of the new alkaloids were determined by spectroscopic analyses and partialsynthesisfrom known compounds. Gelsecrotonidine (1), 14-hydroxygelsecrotonidine (2), and 11-methoxygelsecrotonidine (3) possess an additional C2 unit with an acetic
