    Coating films are prepared by exposing to oxygen, particularly at ambient temperatures, a composition comprising (a) a film-forming material comprising moieties of an ethylenically unsaturated fatty acid containing at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups and (b) a strong acid which is fully dissociated in water. Suitable film-forming materials are oil-modified alkyd resins and suitable acids are alkyl/aryl sulphonic acids. Curable compositions and polymeric products, optionally modified with non-autoxidisable polymerisable materials, are also provided.

    The present invention relates to an impact resistant polystyrene composition which comprises 5 to 97% by weight of an (a) styrenic polymer having syndiotactic configuration, 2 to 95% by weight of a (b) rubbery elastomer having an olefinic component or a polyolefin, and 0.5 to 10% by weight of a (c) styrene/olefin block or graft copolymer having a micro-phase separation temperature of 180°C at the highest when diluted with dioctyl phthalate to a solution with a concentration of 60% by weight. According to the present invention, an impact resistant polystyrene composition can be provided which is greatly enhanced in impact resistance and extensibility without imparing heat resistance and modulus of elasticity.

    A polystyrenic resin composition comprising (A) a styrenic polymer composition containing (a) 1 to 99 % by weight of a polystyrenic resin having the syndiotactic configuration, (b) 1 to 99 % by weight of a polyamide resin, (c) 0.1 to 10 % by weight of a compatibilizer which is compatible with component (a) and has a polar group reactive with component (b), and (d) 0 to 50 % by weight of a rubbery elastomer and/or a modified rubbery elastomer, (B) specific amounts of a copper compound and an iodine compound, and optionally, specific amounts of (C) a phenolic compound, (D) N,N'-hexamethylenebis(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamide), (E) an ester of thiodipropionic acid or a derivative thereof, (F) a copper inhibitor, and (G) inorganic filler; and a molded article prepared from the polystyrenic resin composition. The polystyrenic resin composition shows excellent resistance to heat aging so that little change in physical properties or color is caused even after exposure to a high temperature for a long time, has excellent toughness, rigidity, heat resistance, and water resistance, and can advantageously be used as a material for various types of industrial product.

    A plated molded article which comprises a molded article formed with a resin composition comprising specific relative amounts of (A) a styrenic polymer having a syndiotactic configuration and (B) at least one selected from the group consisting of (a) rubbery elastomers soluble in an oxidizing agent, (b) thermoplastic resins soluble in an oxidizing agent, and (c) inorganic compounds soluble in an oxidizing agent, and has been plated; and a process for producing the plated molded article. A plated molded article containing a styrenic polymer having a syndiotactic configuration which suppresses skipped plating and has a high adhesive strength of the plating film can efficiently be obtained with stability in an industrial process.
