  似乎糠醛可以通过碱以两种方式与甲乙酮反应。在0～3°缩合，主要产物为4-(2-呋喃基)-3-甲基-4-丁醇-2-酮。这种羟醛很容易脱水成 4-(2-呋喃基)-3-甲基-3-丁烯-2-酮，再被次氯酸钠氧化成 α-甲基-2-呋喃丙烯酸。在60～3°的缩合反应中，主要产物是亚糠酮，在182～4°熔化得到缩氨基脲和在盐酸醇中开环得到二氧羧酸。推测该酮为 1-(2-furyl)-1-penten-3-one，由此生成的二氧代羧酸为 γ,ζ-二氧代壬酸。同样有趣的是，相对于 4-(2-呋喃基)-3-甲基-3-丁烯-2-one，获得了两种 2,4-二硝基苯腙。
