The invention provides a polycarbonate diol and a polycarbonate diol copolymer each having excellent mechanical performance, hydrolysis resistance, etc. and exhibiting excellent industrial productivity. The polycarbonate diol includes a repeating unit represented by formula (1), and the polycarbonate diol copolymer includes a repeating unit represented by formula (1) and a repeating unit represented by formula (3):
