There are provided an aminoanthracene derivative having an end substituent, such as a dibenzofuran ring, that is bonded at a position other than the 2-position in the formula (1) to anthracene through a nitrogen atom, and an organic electroluminescent device containing a cathode and an anode, and therebetween one or plural organic thin film layers containing at least a light emitting layer, at least one layer of the organic thin film layers containing the aminoanthracene derivative.
