  A novel derivative of 1-β-D-arabinofuranosyl-(E)-5-(2-halogenovinyl)uracil represented by general formula (1), which can remain in the blood at a high concentration for long when orally administered; an antiviral drug containing the same as an active ingredient; and a method of treating viral infections by administering a safe and effective dose of the same to a patient with a viral infection, wherein X represents halogen and R¹ to R³ may be the same or different from one another and each represents hydrogen, lower alkyl or aralkyl, provide that the case where all of R¹, R² and R³ are hydrogen atoms at the same time is excluded.
