The reaction of 2-acetoxy-2-phenylacetaldehyde monothioacetal with cinnamylsilane and -tin serves as a model system for disclosing the simple diastereoselectivity of unambiguously assigned SN1- and SN2-like reactions between thioacetal and prochiral allylmetals.
