Photophysical properties of an unusual bichromophoric species constructed from a cyclometalated Pt(<scp>ii</scp>) chromophore and a blue Bodipy-acetylacetonate species
prepared from a blue absorbing borondipyrromethene core bearing gallate substituted paraffin chains. Compound 3 chelates a Pt(II) center having an orthometalated 2-phenyl-pyridine anion (ppy) as an additional ligand, giving rise to a new bichromophoric Pt(II)-Bodipy species, 1. The absorption spectra, redox behavior and photophysical properties of 1, 3 and of the neutral Pt(II) compound 2, containing

characteristic O–H⋯O intramolecular hydrogen bonds and the structure of ligand 2 is close packed whereas, ligands 3, 4 and 5 contain extended 1-D architectures based on CO⋯X halogen bonds. In each case, the halogen-bond donor seeks out the most powerful halogen-bond acceptor (based on electrostatic considerations). In the corresponding Cu(II) complexes the coordinationchemistry remains a constant throughout
New, acetylacetone-linked borondipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes were readily obtained from BODIPY cores by various protocols involving direct grafting with acetylacetone or cross-coupling from a preorganized phenylacacH derivative bearing either an lodo or an ethynyl function. Facile anchoring on TiO2 powder is obtained and scrutinized by FT-IR spectroscopy.
